Delivery Day...

On 6th April 2007, Good Friday morning, I was making my usual trip to the toilet when I spotted blood! Is this what they call the "Show"??? Am I in labour already?? I quickly went back to the room and told hubby dearest and grabbed the "What to Expect When You're Expecting" - my pregnancy bible to double confirm that this is indeed a sign of LABOUR!! Well, still wasn't really sure as I did not feel any contractions but Heck! I'm gonna take my shower and head down to the hospital anyway!

I checked myself in at 8:00am and the mid-wives couldn't understand why I was in the delivery suite as I strolled into the delivery suite so calmly. I was surprised at myself too as I always had the impression that when you are in labour, you will have that agonized look plastered all over your face!

I was hooked up to the monitor immediately to see the frequency of the contractions, but there were very little so I was placed on the drip to speed things up. Epidural was also administered and my gynae was informed. While waiting for my cervix to dilate, we kept ourselves entertained by watching tv & listening to music.

Finally at 2:30pm, the contractions were coming fast and strong! Gynae came and said that it was time to push. I'd never imagine the energy level every mother has to push their lil' ones out! It is indeed amazing how much strength is required! Just when you thought that you have given your ALL and there's no way a baby could still be in you, the lil' one is still stuck there! Anyway, just when I was about to scream "BRING ON THE VACUUM!!!!", Caitlyn decided to POP!! Yay!!! I guess she didn't want to greet the world with a pointy head! Well Done Caitlyn!

Here's one of her first pictures taken in the delivery suite. She weighed in @ 3.335kg.

Almost There...

In the last 2 months of my pregnancy, I was getting impatient to see my little angel. Who will she look like? Which traits will she "inherit" from us? Will she be fine during the delivery?

My tummy was also ballooning in the final months. Surprisingly, I was still able to run around doing my daily stuff and shopping for all the last minute items. The only 2 things that I dreaded in the final trimester were the frequent trips to the toilet in the middle of the nite and the limited sleeping positions - sleeping sideways. Tossing and turning in bed was also a problem. But for Caitlyn dearest, I will not complain.

We also got all the things that she needed ready. Her cot was set up. Her bedsheets and clothes were washed. Her pram and car seat were all ready. Everything was ready to welcome our Lil' Angel!

Being Preggie...

Thank God for the easy pregnancy, with hardly any morning sickness or other pregnancy related uncomfy-ness except for the 1st two months when I felt a bit "high" whenever I was hungry, I really didn't mind being pregnant! In fact, I was quite happy being pregnant as this is almost the only time when people will fuss over you, give up their seats, feed you with good stuff like bird's nest *wink* and get driven around; in short, you get treated like a princess! But of cos, this is not to say that I want to get preggie again!! No!!! Definitely not so soon even if I want Baby No. 2 cos it is simply too draining mentally and physically. And the process of giving birth is a bit icky...

Being preggie for the 1st time, Alvin & myself had lots of fun watching our lil' angel developing in my tummy as well as my ballooning tummy! We looked forward to the monthly visits to the gynae. We will be in awe each time the gynae pointed out her little heart thumping away, her little fingers and toes wriggling, her bladder, her vulva to confirm that she is indeed our little girl and not a boy and the silhouette of her features becoming more and more prominent each month - isn't it just amazing how a tiny ball of cells can develop into a little human being in 9 months...wow!
Shopping for baby has also become our favourite pastime. Every time we see an ad for Baby Fairs, you can be sure to find us there. Everything is so irresistably cute!! The tiny clothes, mittens, booties, hooded towels, bedsheets...we'll just grab them all! I can't remember when was the last time I went shopping for myself. Only things that I have gotten for myself since I became preggie are maternity clothes, breast pumps, breast pads, sanitary pads...u get the gist ya? Shopping for Caitlyn dearest has become our priority. Hmm...Motherhood! Fatherhood? Ok...that too!

Getting Started...

I have FINALLY decided to start blogging my journey with Caitlyn dearest!! Have been thinking about blogging since I found out that I was preggie way back in July last year...how's that for procrastination?? Well...but with me busy at work and the frequent pre-natal check-ups and shopping for baby over the weekends, who can blame me ya? And me being a 1st time mommy, I was naive to think that the 3 months of maternity leave = 3 months of holiday which I could use to blog, shop & sleep all day long! Well, how wrong I was! Caitlyn dearie is already 7 weeks old and these 7 weeks have to be my busiest in my 29 years! Coaxing, diaper-changing & feeding is my new job, not forgetting the sleepless nites! But this is a job that is by far the most satisfying - when I see her needs being met and she smiling at me as if saying, "Well done Mommy!" - won't that just melt any mommy's heart...
